Skin Deep: Cosmetic Safety Database

In researching for myself and you, I am always on the lookout for good, quality sites that are relavant in some way to our health.  One of these sites that I have just added to our resource page is the Skin Deep: Cosmetic Safety Database.

This database is extremely valuable to anyone out there who wants quick, credible and comprehensive information on any ingredient found on personal care labels.  The site is brought to you by the researchers at the Environmental Working Group, which is already listed as a trusted and valuable site in our resources section.  Their mission and vision is very similar to that of what Evolving Wellness stands for and that is “to use the power of information to protect human health and the environment.”

Review: Wedderspoon Manuka Kiss Lip Balm

manukalip.JPGI am so excited to share this product with you, as in my opionion  it is by far the best natural lip balm out on the market today!!!  It is called Manuka Kiss and it comes from the Wedderspoon Company who focuses on high quality natural products and the environment.  The products they specialize in are all honey and beeswax based.

The lip balm is absolutely amazing, I have tried both the Burt’s Bees lip balms and Alba lip balms and both companies’ products do not come close to this one in terms of being a superior natural product, quality and price.  It has no preservatives or perfumes added to it - all natural ingredients! And that is exactly what you want when looking for something to put on your lips, since half of it you will end up ingesting directly into your system.

Now for those of you who do not know their different honey varieties like me, Manuka is a special type of high quality honey with antibacterial properties. It comes from bees that feed on the flowers of the Tea Tree, hence the antibacterial properties.

Review: Burt’s Bees Milk & Honey Lotion

milkhoneylotion.JPGIn search for natural alternatives, I tried this lotion from Burt’s Bees, a company dedicated to truly natural products and the “greater good”. It is a Milk and Honey Lotion that is recommended for normal to dry skin.  The bottle I have is labeled as 97.77% natural and claims to “leave rough, flaky skin soft and smooth naturally”.  On the Burt’s Bees web site, the product has since become reformulated, is now part of their “Naturally Nourishing” line and labeled as 98.2% natural.

I will base my comments on the older formula I have, as there are still bottles of this in the stores and on Amazon.com.The lotion is much more viscous than your typical lotion. It still however goes on well and is very well absorbed.  It does not leave skin with an oily after effect but does moisturize the skin as promised.
