At the end of May, Evolving Wellness featured a 5 part Sun Smart Series to maximize the benefits of the sun, while minimizing the risks.
One of the consumer’s biggest challenges I noted, was to actually find a sunscreen that would protect against the harmful radiation of the sun, while at the same time not increasing the risks of skin and other cancers due to the harmful chemicals in the sunscreen.
Finding safe alternatives was not that easy, that is until now!
The Environmental Working Group’s division Skin Deep has just updated and released their list of the safest and most effective sunscreens. They investigated over 1000 brand name sunscreens and the results are in. Their findings indicate that 4 out of 5 sunscreens contain chemicals that pose risks to our health. This is obviously not good news for a product that we are trusting to protect us.
And so I am delighted to share this list with you here!

The Zesty Orange toothpaste is the second of the five flavors that The Green Beaver Company offers. And aside from the amazing taste of the zesty orange, it too, like the Cilantro Mint lives up to its reputation of a great natural personal product.
The taste of this toothpaste is delicious and I am sure it will be a big favorite with many kids. The toothpaste really tastes and smells like real oranges. So unless you do not find the orange flavor appealing, it is a great choice. Other flavors offered from this company are: Cilantro Mint, Frosty Mint, Green Apple and Star Anise.
This toothpaste, like the previous Cilantro Mint that I tried, is the same when it comes to color, texture and foaming ability. The color of the toothpaste is off-white, not that typical bleached white toothpaste color. In terms of the texture, there is a little more of a grainier feel to it - naturally thanks to the silica. Finally, it is very mildly foaming, also a difference compared to the heavy foaming commercial toothpastes.

My latest venture has been to incorporate healthier alternatives where toothpaste is concerned. I know most people may think of Tom’s of Maine, but I would not even bother with that one, it is one of those typical examples of a “natural wannabee”, not to mention now owned by Colgate. Thus, I am very excited to add this product to our review section as it took me a quite a while to find one like it, that is a truly, high quality natural toothpaste.
So after a trip a couple of weeks ago to my favorite local health food store and after reading about 10 different “so called natural” toothpastes, I finally discovered one that truly was worthy of the title “natural and healthy”. And if I am going to pay double or triple the price for toothpaste, I want to make sure that it truly is worth it.
The toothpaste is from The Green Beaver Company. I am so impressed with this company that I will be doing a whole article on them in the near future. It is a Canadian based company; started by a married couple whose inspiration for truly natural products was their son. They have a variety of products including natural toothpaste. This review will be about the Cilantro Mint Natural Toothpaste.

Whenever I walk by nail salons or hair salons in malls, I often wonder about the tremendous health risks associated with visiting these establishments.
You really can’t help wondering, especially based on the odor coming out of these places even when you are not directly inside of them or in front of them. I know personally I have a hard time walking by these places, let alone walking in.
These thoughts drove me to a deeper question and that was… it is one thing for the customer to frequent such establishments from time to time and become exposed to all the toxic fumes and chemicals, but what about the actual workers???
In this article, I will be explaining today’s most popular nail salons, the latest results to come out from a new survey from the Northern California Cancer Center and Asian Health Services of Oakland, customer health risks and finishing off by focusing on why we insist on paying to get sick.

Since I introduced you all to FutureNatural a few days ago as a great place for more natural and organic personal products, I thought I would also include this video I found. It quickly introduces you to what the company is all about and what you can expect from FutureNatural. The video is only about 3 minutes long but it quickly allows one to get to know the company a little better. It features Emma Pezzack, who is the founder of FutureNatural.
