Healthy Lifestyle Expo 2007 Conference DVD Set

To continue to celebrate Vegetarian Awareness Month, I wanted to share with you, one of the most amazing health resources out there that has had an incredible impact on my own life and health, as well as friends and coworkers that I have shared it with.

One of the most known vegetarian sites out there, VegSource held a Healthy Lifestyle Expo last year in 2007, as they have done so for the past few years.

During these expos, various famous and accredited doctors and other key note speakers present health information. After this event took place live, VegSource compiled the workshops and made a Special Edition 3-disc DVD set called “Get Healthy Now! - You really ARE what you eat!

In fact, if you are not a vegetarian, please do not stop reading because this video is an amazing health resource period. It will open up your eyes to things about your health that you never even imagined.

It presents up to date, practical and mind blowing medical data where our health is concerned! It explains a lot in regards to why our population and Western society is the way it is, in terms the types of diseases we get and other negative body conditions.

Thus in this post I will tell you a little bit about this resource and what I learned from it and what you can expect to learn from it.

How We Treat the Animals We Eat

Today Oprah’s schedule caught my attention as she was featuring a fabulous topic for any person out there who eats any kind of animal product or by-product. It was especially powerful too as we are in October, which is Vegetarian Awareness Month.

Oprah’s show today was entitled “How we Treat the Animals We Eat.” Its focus was to look deeper at how egg laying chickens, cows, pigs and other animals really are treated behind the scenes, before they make it to our table and what terms like “free-range” and “cage-free” really mean.

Oprah featured famous journalist Lisa Ling, proponents for Animal’s Rights, political activists as well as farmers who both support or refute the idea of organic farming where the animals are treated humanely.

I think this is such a critical issue for us at this point in humanity because too many of us are waking up out of a deep sleep of unconsciousness that has plagued humanity for centuries.

We are no longer willing or able to look the other way in the face of any injustice, whether it is done to humans or animals. We have indeed come a long way and as more people become aware and educated of the way the animals they eat are treated, more changes can be brought about faster for these animals to live out humane lives.

Hence if you missed this great episode, read on for details, summaries and opinions.

Conflicting Health Advice About Soy

Okay, so it is no surprise that there is so much health information out there today. The Internet is packed full of health tips, diets, advice, studies, etc.

Well that would all be great if the information was credible, consistent and factual. Unfortunately sometimes it isn’t.

Who is to blame? Well no one person or group really. The thing is there is a small percentage of people out there who actually go straight to the science and to add to that, make that credible, unbiased science. Secondly, there is a small percentage of people who truly understand the body, the science and bring all of the information together. Thirdly, we have the media that often highly distorts the facts of science for us and makes us learn things that are incorrect, which we then go and pass around to others and you can quickly see how the vicious cycle continues. And of course to add to all this, everybody is entitled to their own opinion.

So what is the problem? Well yesterday in my inbox, I had a health newsletter from Dr. Mercola of Mercola.com and one from HealthCastle.com.

The one from Dr. Mercola had an article with the following heading: “The Evidence Against Soy” and the one from HealthCastle had one that read “10 Ways to Add More Soy To Your Diet.

Interesting, as you can see - I had a bit of a chuckle too. Perhaps I would not have been so keen on catching it if these two came on different days, but when the two articles came together I just could not let this one go. So in light of veggie awareness month, this could not have come at a better time. Hence I thought let’s take a closer look at what is really going on when it comes to soy.
