Practical Applications and Information for Optimal Health and Living Naturally

November is National Health Food Month

Welcome to November!

This month Evolving Wellness, along with the Canadian Health Food Association, will be celebrating National Health Food Month!

We will focus this month on food that is truly healthy and was made for our bodies to eat and benefit from!

We will thus dive into the world of organics and wholesome, natural foods. We will introduce some stores, books and other resources that are based on the same paradigm. Finally, we will also take a look at food that is called “health food”, but may not quite measure up to the standards and purity of what it really means to be “natural” and “healthy”.

Let us thus take a look a little further, into how and why National Health Food Month originated and what you can truly hope to gain by familiarizing yourself with this initiative and applying it to your everyday life.

Month in Review: October 2008

As the month of October comes to an end, we also bid farewell to Vegetarian Awareness Month.

However, as you know here on Evolving Wellness, our passion and focus is optimal and healthy living and in many ways this involves the vegetarian lifestyle, hence from time to time throughout the rest of the year, you can rest assured that various vegetarian topics will continue to be covered.

We started the month off with “5 Common Myths About Vegetarians” and “Conflicting Health Advice About Soy“.

In the middle of the month, we examined “How We Treat the Animals We Eat” and “How Bottled Water is Not Worth the Price or Your Health“, which also ended up being one of our most popular articles.

We finished the month off by learning “How To Have a Healthy Halloween” and we dissected the popular drink Coca-Cola and learned the impacts of it on our health.

In our reviews section we added two new products: “Nestea Vitao: Acai Blueberry Red Tea” and the “You Are What You Eat - Healthy Lifestyle Conference DVD Set“.

This month, as always, a few new recipes joined our site, including the delicious “Portobello Mushroom and Zucchini Whole Wheat Pasta“.

As for what’s in store next month? Evolving Wellness along with the Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA) will be celebrating and promoting November as National Health Food Month. Hence, stay tuned to find out if all health food really is healthy and how to maximize the benefits of health food, while not falling for any marketing scams. We will also talk about some health food stores and find out more about the products they carry.

Till then - Live Long! Live Healthy! Live Happy!

Coca-Cola: Maybe the Real Thing, But Definitely Not the Healthy Thing

Today we dissect another hot topic for anyone who is serious about their health and for those who should know, but perhaps don’t, about one of the most popular products out there for over a century, and its serious effects on your health.

What is that product? None other than the soda drink, known as Coca-Cola or Coke.

Back in August, I wrote an article entitled “Do You Know What Is In Your Soft Drink ?” and dissected for you the average soft drink - all except colas that is. Colas, as I told you then , needed their own article for the sheer volume of information that I wanted to share with you about them - especially Coca-Cola, the original leader of the pack.

Hence today we are going to learn the brief history of Coca-Cola, what is in some of the different types of Coca-Cola out there and what effects do these ingredients have on your health.

By the way for those of you wondering why Coca-Cola and not Pepsi, well don’t worry. Pepsi is not off the hook in any way, I just figured we would go to the original source of this drink and by covering this one, I think we can easily see that Pepsi or any cola for that matter is in the same hot seat.
