Hi Vishnu,

Thanks for writing in and sharing :)
And you are so right, millions and billions of dollars are not even spent, but WASTED each day to promote harmful products or products that do not enhance our health and wellness. Thankfully we are moving in a new direction on this planet as more and more people awaken consciously and see past the illusions before us.

All the best!

Hi Dave,

Yup, they are. Because as soon as they discover a beneficial compound in plants, they try to extract it, bottle it and then market the supplement, as if it was a magic pill or cure for all.

I do use the word "super food" sometimes, like for hemp or coconut - but in the definition that most originally used it, in the natural health & nutrition industry. A food that has an exceptionally high amount of nutrients and healing properties.

However, as you point out, that qualifies pretty much every fruit and vegetable!

And jeez, how scary would that be... a doughnut superfood :(

Hi Evita,
This is the age of the super foods. Everybody in the health industry makes claim to have their own special super food. Now were finding super ingredients in our not so healthy foods and people are all believing it. Pretty soon a doughnut will be a super food. Our local high school serves doughnuts, as they classify a doughnut as a grain. It's true! I don't like the term super food. There is however a super group of foods, and the vegetables lay claim to that. Vegetables are best when eating a wide variety.

Very informative, thank you. I have always said that if red wine was good for you because of the grapes, why not just drink grape juice? Common sense isn't always common.

Hi Jordan

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and comment.

The research seems to be inconclusive on this one, as some experts believe that a healthy person has the capability to completely convert the necessary amounts of ALA into DHA and EPA, as long as their diet is high in ALA.

Some experts think that not enough will be converted and some honestly and flat out right say that we just don't know for sure yet.

I personally will not be eating fish again in this lifetime, and my diet is super high in omega -3 from plant sources, just like many other vegans out there without any deficiencies. I am also in perfect health and eat a very low omega-6 diet, which is something that needs to be considered alongside here too.

I know there are populations who do not eat fish or seafood with omega-3 and fare just fine. If someone is concerned, there are algae forms of DHA and EPA that can be supplemented with as well if one wants to avoid the toxins in the fish or simply avoid having to kill fish and put more stress on the planet's oceans.

Unfortunately the omega-3 found in most plants is ALA, not DHA or EPA, which are the two with the most publicized health effects. We are only capable of converting a fraction of the ALA in our bodies into DHA and EPA. While ALA is still beneficial, I think it's misleading to suggest that flax or walnuts are a sufficient source of omega-3 when they are lacking in the key variants.
