I've used Seventh Gen but as soon as I found out about the SLES I switched. SLES (Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate, aka Sodium Laureth Sulfate) usually contains trace amounts of 1,4-Dioxane. If you've followed the media attention around 1,4-Dioxane it's known carcinogen and the state a bunch of companies have recently been called out on it's usage. The thing is that SLES just helps remove the grease and break up the oils so it can be washed away, there are other natural ingredients that do that.
I've been using Nature Clean, it's totally green and non-toxic, doesn't use any bad chemicals. They also list their full ingredients on the packaging, not just a summary so that you have to go and dig deeper.

I'd suggest checking them out, www.naturecleanliving.com. They've got a huge selection of product.

Hi Kristi!

Thank you for sharing your experience. I am glad it is working well for you and no irritation is noticed. I think it is ALL those fragrances and dyes in the others especially that cause a lot of people's skin to react. Now can we imagine what is happening inside our body?

Most people do not consider how something as simple as a detergent can actually also put stress on their liver and other body functions.

I have been using this detergent for about a year now. No complaints really, except for the price, but then again, everything is really pricey these days. The thing I like most about it is that when I change detergents, I usually get an allergic reaction, but with this one, I didn't.

Hi Mark,

If you have tried commercial brands and they didn't do a good job, then I would assume this one may be the same, although it doesn't hurt to try it.

However, I do have a suggestion - have you tried adding a cup or so of baking soda to your laundry. Baking soda is not only a great cleaner but it also neutalizes odours. Cheap and not toxic to your health - it might just work. (And I mean the actual powder - although they do have their own laundry detergent, I would start by trying the baking soda in powdered form first)

Hope that works for you :)

Hi EarthMother

Yes, ditto on that SLS. I have removed it from my soaps, shampoos and toothpastes, but still have this ingredient in the detergent I use. Only saving grace is that it is not in a product that goes directly on the skin, like the others.

I've used this for years now, but I'm not wild about the sodium laureth sulfate. Grrrr. It's freakin' in everything!
