Thank you for for this valuable information. I do use Replens but one problem I keep having is growing benign breast lumps. My GYN thinks going on natural progesterone may stop this from happening. I will speak to him about what you have suggested and give this more consideration. :D

Cheers! JJ

Hello JJ (again),

Here is a reply to your question from Dr. Minkin:
<strong>
"<em>First of all, you should not absolutely say no to hormone therapy; women who undergo premature menopause are in a special category as far as hormone therapy, and it might even be overall beneficial for you to consider it. However, if you are still anxious about systemic therapy, there is no reason not to do vaginal estrogen.

Vaginal estrogen comes in creams, rings, and tablets, and the amount of estrogen that gets absorbed is very tiny; and all of these can lead to a much better sex life. However, if you are anxious about that, you can always use an over the counter product like Replens, which is a fine moisturizer, and does help a lot of women.

Women with premature menopause should speak with a knowledgeable gynecologist on this topic. If you don't feel comfortable speaking with you provider, you can always go to menopause.org, the web site of the North American Menopause society, to find a certified menopause clinician near you."</em><strong></strong>

Hi JJ,

From my recent talks with various women, it appears to me that more and more women seem to be going through premature menopause. I am not sure what the major cause of that is, but if I had to guess I would safely say that our environment and food have a lot to do with that.

As for your question, I do not blame you for holding off the progesterone, as I know about 10 years ago or so, doctors were very likely to be prescribing synthetic hormone therapy and that did not work out too well for a lot of women.

There are a few natural herbs you may want to look into with the help of a specialist like the herb Black Cohosh or consider going to see a naturopath for other natural options.

I am sure Dr. Minkin may have an even better answer for you - I will see if she is available to help out.

What a great article, Dr. Minkin and Evita. It's heartbreaking when a woman wants to conceive and can't.

I am at the other end of the spectrum. Have been through premature menopause and am hesitant to take any progesterone at all because of a significant family history of breast cancer.

Do you have any advice on how to keep a healthy sex life going with your husband while you are dealing with a lack of hormones?

Thanks, JJ
