Hi Doug,

No with fruits there is not the same problem as with other sweets. Some heath professionals try to tell people not to eat too many fruits, even though there are people who are "fruititarians" who are thriving. In the end, fruits will not give someone diabetes - soda, cookies and fatty foods will.

Fruits have fiber which is the first best thing working for them in how our body uses that sugar. Fruits also have ample vitamins, minerals phytonutrients, etc that make them very beneficial to eat. The best of course is to have the fruit fresh, no fruit cups or heaven forbid fruit roll ups ;)

In the end, I always say mother nature knows best - she gives us what we need and I don't think we can ever go wrong eating natural food. Obviously everything can be overdone, but I am talking under normal conditions here.

So go ahead and enjoy your fruits! So much wonderful goodness there :)

Sugar triggers production of the brain's natural opioids. That is a key to the addiction process. The brain is getting addicted to its own opioids as it would to morphine or heroin. Drugs give a bigger effect, but it is essentially the same process.

thanks for sharing your article.

Hi Evita,
Thanks for stopping by today. Sugar is so bad for us. Of course most of us eat way too many processed foods from white rice to white flour. I am starting an Ayurvedic Cleanse and Fast this week just to do some detoxing from Thanksgiving. Hope you have a beautiful week.
Hugs and Love

Hello MizFit - you are very welcome. I am so glad to be able to spread the word where sugar and health is concerned as it is a serious problem in our society. And as Hanlie above mentioned too, it is probably the sadest when kids are involved because they do not know any better and we should be the positive role models for them.

Hanlie, I LOVE what you said to those moms!!! Oh my God I laughed so good! It reminds me of when I watched Supersize me and he said that everytime he drives by McDonald's he is going to hit his kids accross the head (i.e. he was joking but trying to drive the point home) anyway that was so funny too about how he explained we form associations to things which make us feel pleasure vs pain.

But really it is so true most people in our society just can't see past the sugar border and open themselves up to the bigger picture. I think it is because we are so afraid of change and thinking that sugar is bad, means some serious changes in one's life.

Anyway I will have to check out that author that you mentioned - that is a great story too. But that is what I tell my students too, when Halloween or Christmas rolls around and they ask me for treats, etc. I tell them I care about them too much to give them and their bodies junk.

That's definitely a book that I'll add to my list. I'm doing extremely well after two weeks with no sugar and refined carbs... It's really not that difficult.

It's funny, I was saying to a group of moms one day that if someone offers my children sweets one day, I'll feel free to offer their kids alcohol and cigarettes. They were NOT amused, but I feel very strongly about that!

One of my favorite health authors, Mary-Ann Shearer, used to tell her kids that she doesn't give them candy and sodas because she loves them and wants the best for them. So her daughter came home one day with the story that a classmate's mother doesn't love him, because she gives him candy every day!
