@Lexie,
Yes the same thing happens to me too. I'm a high school senior and my friends always ask me about my Vegetarian diet and most of the time they seem not to understand my beliefs!

Hey Evita!
I'm a sophomore in High School, and have been vegetarian for 6 months. I am doing a product for my Health class on Common Misconceptions of Vegetarianism. And, I found your article :) I was reading it, and in my head i'm like "That is SO true" these are points that i have argued endlessly to my friends, and family, and anyone who knows im vegetarian! It sometimes feels like its me against the world, the US is a meat-eating country. I always tell myself there is no reason to be angry at the world for eating meat, i KNOW i cant change that. Its not the meat-eating that bothers me, its how naive they are! I have spent countless lunches at school explaining to my best friend that i can eat more than salads, i just choose to because i like them!
Anyways,
Cheers,
Thanks for the article!

Thank you Ms. Ochel
I had decided to send a letter to my School Board Director to have MEAT FREE days in our cafeteria on some specific days and to encourage students to eat vegetarian food.
Now I'm also going to send it to a nearby nursing home and to the county hospital and I hope that it will workout well
Thanks Once again.

Hi Neel

Thank you for contacting me. And wow that is a great project - I wish they had classes or topics like that when I was in high school :)

So here are a few suggestions:
- a member of your municipal/local government that is in the health & nutrition sector
- an owner of a nursing home to improve the health of seniors
- a parent's group or council to improve their children's health
- a director of a weight loss group that can aid the member's in healthy weight loss

Hope that helps - feel free to share how your project went and what you decided to do. It is wonderful that you are spreading awareness on such an important topic for our health, the environment and the animals.

Hi, Ms.Ochel.
I'm a high school student and i'm doing a project for my AP Environmental Science class which is on vegetarianism. As a part of my project i'm suppose to write a letter to somebody about my research and how that can be important. So I need your help to suggest me a person who can be appropriate to write a letter to about ideas on how to encourage vegetarianism
Thanks

It is nice that you posted these 5 myths about vegetarianism. This post is good for vegetarians and non-vegetarians because lots of people still believe on these myths. You are right, there are some vegetarians who do not quite fully understand the idea of vegetarianism and become deficient in various nutrients. This post is a great motivator for non-vegetarians too to try being one.

Hi S. Ali

Thank you. Yes, the China Study was an AMAZING eye opener. From the amount of protein to the whole unnecessary reliance on dairy - it is good.

And yes, seeing the number of vegans & vegetarians rising daily, people are definitely starting to wake up and realize what good health entails. It is definitely very different from what we have been lead to believe.

Very well written.

As one who is aware of these myths, I know newbies and curious heads will find this post informative. The powers-that-be have made it unpopular to be a vegetarian or vegan. And you're right, the protein myth is very misunderstood. I know when I read The China Study, I was shocked to find out that we really don't need that much protein. Good thing people are slowly starting to wake up!
