@ JESSECA - Hi Jesseca and thank you for your question. As Salba is neither any kind of drug, pill or supplement, but a typical seed, it is safe to eat during pregnancy.

The following is from Salba's web site:

"Who should use Salba®?

Everyone. Because of Salba’s® nutritional density, this ancient grain is beneficial to people of every age.

    * Salba® can help provide the key nutrients children and adolescents need to develop into strong and healthy adults.

    * Salba’s® rich Calcium and Iron content make it excellent for women in their child bearing years, nursing and beyond menopause.
    * Its high fibre content makes Salba® a great help to those watching their weight. Salba® holds 14 times its weight in water so it helps to swell the stomach and alleviate feelings of hunger while providing a nutrient rich food to cleanse the colon and bowels for more effective digestion.
    * Salba’s® superior ratio of Omega 3 to Omega 6 fatty acids, fibre, antioxidants and minerals make it perfect for anyone concerned about fighting the aging process. Studies show these nutrients help reduce fatigue, strengthen heart muscles, improve blood circulation and flow, support healthy blood sugar levels, promote agile joints, improve digestion and enhance mental clarity and memory."

To be extra sure you are getting a superior product, I would recommend for you to choose the Salba certified organic version, instead of their regular or a typical "chia" seed from Mexico.

Hope that helps.

@ HAZELEYES - Thanks for your great question. From my research and understanding it is the seeds ONLY that hold the power of the phenomenal nutrition. The leaves and other parts may be good too, but I would almost be 100% sure to say that they will not hold the same nutritional benefits.

The reason for this is that in nature, normally the seeds of any plant are where most of the nutrition sits, as this will be making a new plant and hence nature invests the most into that.

Pardon me, typos.
Is it the seeds that are nutritious? Or the plants?

@ MARIGOLD - Hi Marigold and thanks for stopping by.

Where Salba and Chia are concerned, it is not quite the case that they are the same. Even though they may share the same lineage of plant, since this time, it all depends on selective breeding techniques and how they were grown.

Salba has taken steps to try to cultivate the most nutrient packed seed. And this process is not over, as again through natural selective breeding and proper testing they continue to get better.

Many varieties of chia on the market however are not grown based on these stringent standards, so one may be getting a similar product or one may not be. If this is not a concern to a person, then sure it doesn't matter which seed they buy. However, if one wants more reassurance, then I would go with Salba.

what I understand is chia seed is just the same with Salba. It is the white chia seed. What you need here is to plant the chia seed again and again until you get the white chia seed produict.
