Hi,
It is really hard for the average person to make the switch from eating poorly to eating healthy. We're all addicted on manufactured food that's so high in sugar and sodium. Eating natural foods like whole grains, seeds, nuts, fruits and vegetables don't seem to be very tasty with out sugar and sodium. When we do eat some of these healthy foods we seem to screw it up by using dips, creams and sauces made with cheese and salad dressings. This is a major overhaul and withdrawal that someone must take to wean off of foods high in fats, sugars and sodium. It's an up hill battle and then to get people to find time to exercise, well? Most people give me this cop out attitude of "everything in moderation" because the health world says so.

Nice to know abt how our brains take over self , but the thing which i guess should also be explained here is, not always over eating is behind someones obesity , we all should try to eat quality food and should try to exercise well in order to keep us healthy , a hunger strike wont let us to loose our weight , but proper exercising will :)

Fantastic to hear David!

The benefits of making your body move and work are tremendous whether they are felt instantly or not. As your body adjusts to its new routine, you will continue to notice changes in your health and overall well being and assuming your food intake does not increase, you will notice the weight slowly coming off too.

The key word is "slowly" and that is what discourages a lot of people, however we have to understand that fast and drastic changes are extremely unhealthy for the body - the key is to maintain balance.

As for walking it is probably next to swimming and light weights the next best thing as it does not cause as much stress and possible injury as jogging which of course burns calories faster but at a price. So way to go and I hope the changes you feel in your body will be motivation enough to continue this new routine.

P.S I try to walk too, 5 out of every 7 days first thing in the morning and it feels wonderful for my body and makes me feel wonderful mentally and energetically, etc. for the entire day!

It's a daily battle to deal with all of this. And then there are all the other factors that we deal with on a daily basis that involve stress but not necessarily physical challenges. So we are "active" in a sense without actually reaping the benefits in our metabolism.
I am hoping that walking is the key. And my wife has started to walk with me too. We have two different walks. Her route. And her other route. I mean my route.
Fortunately it has started to cool off a little bit as fall approaches. And I am noticing a slight change in the way I feel too. Some of the little messengers seem to be getting the message.
Hopefully this will continue and the weight scale will begin to reflect what is happening too.
